My wife Ann and I have accepted a challenge that will divert my energies from the CCG. We have been asked to polish a book we wrote which we abandoned about seven years ago when we ran out of money and motivation. Though largely complete, it was still rough and since then it has been circulating privately among therapists and their clients and is considered very useful. It was reviewed at the time by Art Bochner, Professor of Communication at the University of Florida, who asked permission to use it in his teaching. Our counsellor at the time, David Epston, and Prof Bochner recently asked us again to consider completing it for publication, saying our story is uniquely helpful. There’s a proven market around the world.
Ann and I are hopeful that the passage of time has eased the raw emotion that saturated the original writing and which often made for a turbulent collaboration, so we’ve agreed to resume the work. The book requires some tidying up, likely to take several weeks, which might stretch into a couple of months, and we’ll maintain a keen focus on it until it’s finished. But no doubt I’ll take refuge now and again in the blog, which, with all its difficulties, remains less stressful than our family’s experience with anorexia. I wanted to give you notice of my intended absences and to assure you this is not the end of the CCG blog.
If you know of someone struggling with an eating disorder and whose family doesn’t know where to turn, please suggest they contact me and we can put them in touch with therapists and resources of proven worth. Thanks.
