Global warming reason
“We’re not going to save the planet by putting our country out of business.”
UK Chancellor George Osborne finally displays some common sense in his address to the Tory conference, putting the cat among the Lib Dem pigeons as they squawk over the looming “slow-down” or “turn-around” in Britain’s over-ambitious emissions reduction programme.
Some seem truly to believe that huge new emissions-related expenses will improve industry, boost the economy, produce another golden age and evoke adulation from the populace. It must be really hard for them to keep finding new ways to state such an obvious fallacy.
I earnestly hope that this message, which applies as sensibly to New Zealand as to any country, is absorbed by all those agitating to reduce our industrial emissions, including the climate committee of our Royal Society, some senior climate scientists in public service, Nick Smith, John Key (who probably knows it already but avoids stating it in public), the Green Party, NZ Herald senior journalists, Greenpeace and Jim Salinger.
People at Hot Topic will, I trust, note this unexpected assertion from “the greenest-ever government in the UK” — although nobody could expect them yet to understand or absorb it.

How climate change zealots are wrecking every last industry this country possesses
Meanwhile, the governor of the Bank of England thinks the coming financial crisis might be worse than the Great Depression..
Happy days indeed
Speaking of the Great Depression, don’t mention the rugby.
O/T but Shub Niggurath has posted a well-researched piece on the editorial policy on Skeptical Science. (deletion of comments and rewriting history).
This is the “one-stop shop” for most NZ AGW enthusiasts , and John Cook features regularly on Gareth’s “Climate Show”.

Makes Gareth’s “permanent moderation” and the “twilight zone” look amateurish.
Yes, Gandalf never fails to guide unsuspecting Herald comment readers to SS but I note Bryan Walker gets “the science from the RealClimate Wiki” – bless his watermelon heart.
I’ve just left the UK behind me and was relieved to arrive home in NZ, as I believe the UK is heading for disaster of various kinds, all of them nasty; the current UK Chancellor’s statement is quite out of character for the government as a whole. I despair of a world run by politicians who refuse to engage their brains on the subject of climate, and despair equally when I read the specious nonsense produced by Renowden and his fellow Warmers. John Cook and his SkS is truly awful in the constant stream of arrant nonsense disguised as science that issues from it.
Are Australia and the UK in a battle for the final of The World Cup of Stupidity?
With the EU acknowledging that their forlorn stand counts for nought if the big three, the U.S., China & India, don’t sign on for Kyoto-II then there isn’t any point to the EU continuing either. The UK & Oz govt’s have their collective heads so far in the sand that all that remains above ground is unrecognizeable as a credible government. Recent prudent comments from our own govt. suggest that they see the writing on the wall and are starting to back off economic suicide as far as dragging our biggest exporters into the madness is concerned.
None of the reality of the EU situation is getting through our MSM though. Today’s mention of the Aussie labour Govt’s success in passing this heinous act was seen as a shining light in the war against that deadly poison that we all exhale. This would make unbelievable fiction. Unfortunately it is all true.
Cheers, Coops.
The NZ media coverage of the Australian “carbon tax” has been lamentable. I saw nothing whatsoever on today’s stuff.co.nz, and Radio NZ morning report presented this in gushing terms as a great breakthrough in Australian culture.
Delingpole’s Australia Commits Suicide is possibly a bit on the polemic side, while Australian MP Cory Bernadi provides a video commentary that is telling.
Ju-liars Kiss of Death has the stench of necrophilia to me.
Grotesque, in every sense.
