Carbon lies

The Australian government’s plan to sell their un-saleable carbon tax has hit a snag – their pollsters have discovered that the word ”carbon” provokes anger in the electorate.
This is no surprise. Most decent people hate liars and the carbon tax campaign has been mired in lies from the start.
The first big lie was from Penny Wong who described carbon dioxide as a “pollutant”. But people soon learned that this colourless, non-toxic, natural atmospheric gas is the essential source of food for all life on earth.
The second big lie was graphic – government propaganda pictured a “dirty” coal power station belching black pollution. Three lies in one here – the power station pictured is closed, it is in England, and all carbon dioxide it ever released was invisible.
Their next mistake was to use paid academics to spread scare forecasts of searing heat and never ending drought, all caused by the demon carbon dioxide. The reality has been no global warming for twelve years, heavy snows in the Northern Hemisphere and heavy rains in Australia.
The fourth big lie was from the leader of the government, Julia Gillard: “There will be no carbon tax under any government I lead”.
No amount of weasel words from government propagandists and apologists will erase our memory of these four big lies about carbon.
Their negative image problem is profound: Whenever the Australian people hear “Carbon” they think “Lies.”

Viv, wasn’t that the stock image that Anthony Watts showed was photoshopped?
If so, that would make it four lies – impressive.
I have to say that the obligatory photo of cooling towers emitting steam accompanying “carbon” articles has become tiresome but I guess a photo of Huntly’s stacks in coal mode wouldn’t have the same impact.

Another of the inconvenient truths that these people don’t like pointed out is the fact that they have no concept of just how important coal fired power really is.
Having been at this for four years now, I have some things I can call upon.
One of those is the U.S. power data, and even that site is now being ‘cleansed’ to reflect the current Administration’s aversion to coal fired power, but one of the things they cannot cleanse is the actual data itself.
In those four years, the US has doubled the Capacity of Wind Power. What is something that bears observing here is that the U.S. currently has the same Nameplate Capacity for Wind Power as for the total Nameplate Capacity for every power plant in Australia of every variety. However the total power actually delivered from all those Wind Plants in the U.S. is only one third of the Power currently consumed in Australia.
However, what is of main note here is that ramping up of wind power in the U.S. over those 4 years has seen them doubling that amount of Wind Capacity to now stand at around 42,000MW, which is the equivalent Capacity of 21 Large scale coal fired power plants (2000MW)
However, over those same four years, NOT ONE coal fired plant over 1500MW Capacity has closed. The only coal fired plants closing are small ones, (mostly less than 100MW) that are in fact time expired, most older than 50 years.
Point out that stark fact, easily verifiable, and again, the response is to change the subject totally.
It is just so obvious.
That’s why I can sometimes be so bold as to suggest that, hey, just shut one of them down and see what happens. That’s no bluff. There would be anarchy.
People don’t know that, and in fact, don’t even want to know that.
I am quite often accused of not bothering about the Science, and it may seem irrelevant to that Science when I harp on about electrical power, but in fact, that is the end result of complying with that Science, and again, people just do not want to equate the two things together.

I realise this is a tad OT, but I watched in appalled fascination last evening while TV1’s Sunday-night magazine show ran an utterly dishonest and one-sided segment on frakking in the US, using the discredited and fradulent movie ‘Gasland’ for their scary ‘science’. If I had not been reasonably familiar with the subject material I would have been horrified by the frakking process – now I am horrified by the State broadcaster, which seems to have no ethics or the ability to carry out basic checks on the veracity of their sources.
After almost a decade of being subjected to the absurd Warmist bias bias of the BBC, it seems that TVNZ is no better. At least I don’t have to pay a huge TV licence fee here, as I did in the UK, and I can (and do) use the channel selector buttons on my remote selectively.
Never fear. I have contributed to the Phelim McAleer kickstarter project FrackNation which should counter the Gasland propaganda ( and make me appear as executive director along with a 1000 other people in the credits)
